After studying at the universities of Ulm, Tobingen, and San Francisco (UCSF), Dr. Thomas Gyer’s doctor first got general surgical training, then he earned the title of General Surgery Specialist. He also completed special supplementary training in traumatology, hand and microsurgery, from Ulm University and Oxford University.

From July 2008 until February 2012 he was a consultant in trauma and reconstructive surgery at Ludwigsburg Hospital (Heidelberg University Teaching Hospital), where he became director of the Department of Hand and Microsurgery. His scientific interests include thumb joint inflammation, prosthesis care in the hand and foot, and minimally invasive treatment with arthroscopy of the wrist and ankle joints. He has been working as a sports physician for several years, overseeing the Togolese national team at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, and the German National Student Team at the 2009 University Games in Harbin, China.

Hand surgery:

  • Acute diseases: infection, tumors.

  • Arthritis of the foot, salivary metatarsal arthritis of the big toe: thumb dumbness with improved corrections of functions.
  • Compression of the nervous system: carpal tunnel syndrome, morton neuralgia, and bone bone (plantar fasciitis).
  • Full range of acute foot injuries (fractures, Achilles tendon rupture).
